Thorsman "Driva" fixings are one example of a type of screw-in fixing for plasterboard (drywall) walls and ceilings. They are ideal for light to medium weight applications. The fixing cuts through the board and forms it's own thread. Once fitted, self-tapping screws (usually supplied with the fixings) are employed to fix the required item to the fixing, clamping the item and fixing in place.
Plus points:
Handy for fixing items to plasterboard with a minimal amount of tools. A No.2 Pozidrive screwdriver usually suffices for fixing and screw.
Simple design with no springs or bolts.
Minus points:
The fixing footprint can sometimes be seen outwith the item that has been fixed - worth checking before using.
Removing the screw from the item can sometimes also remove the fixing from the plasterboard, damaging the fixing integrity in the plasterboard.
